Adoption is the loving act of placing a child in a forever family. Today, birth mothers and fathers who cannot care for their children have many options when deciding on adoption.
In many ways, you get to choose! As the birth parent, you will have the opportunity to choose an adoption agency, choose the adoptive family for your child, and decide if you would like an open or closed adoption. When you choose the adoptive parents / family for your child, you will be able to see if they have qualities that you think are important: hobbies, interests, lifestyle, faith beliefs, etc. This allows you to pick a family that you believe will best support and nurture your child. There are many couples and families waiting to adopt and begin building (or add to!) their families.
An open adoption or semi-open adoption plan will allow you to have ongoing contact with your child and their adoptive parents. This could be through pictures, phone calls, or even in-person visits. This type of adoption allows you to continue to be a part of your child’s life.
A closed adoption is another option. This adoption plan provides confidentiality for you and your child’s adoptive parents. However, if at any time you would like to visit or receive updates about your child, your adoptive agency can connect you with the adoptive parents of your child and possibly get you connected.
Today, you have many freedoms in choosing adoptive parents for your child. Adoption is choosing a forever family for your child, a family that has been waiting and preparing a home for them. Adoption is not giving your child away. Staff at Anchor of Hope can connect you with a licensed adoption agency of your choice to ask questions and explore options.
